Jeevith PU College Students Experience the World Beyond the Textbook
16 September 2026 was a memorable day for the students of Jeevith PU College, Yelahanka, Bengaluru, as they participated in NCBS Open Day 2026 at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Jakkur.
The visit offered students an opportunity to experience science through interactive exhibits, demonstrations, research interactions and hands-on activities beyond their regular classroom learning.
Stepping into the World of Research
The students were introduced to the research environment at NCBS and learned how scientists investigate questions related to biology and the natural world.
Interacting with researchers helped them understand the importance of observation, experimentation, patience and scientific thinking in research.
More Than 40 Interactive Stalls
With more than 40 stalls and exhibits, the Open Day offered students a wide range of scientific experiences.
They explored practical demonstrations, models, books, quizzes and hands-on activities, allowing them to engage directly with different areas of science.
Seeing Science Through a Microscope
Microscopy was one of the highlights of the visit.
Students observed specimens that they had previously encountered only through textbook illustrations. The experience helped them understand how microscopes support biological observation and research.
Discovering the World of Butterflies
The butterfly exhibits introduced students to different stages of the butterfly life cycle, along with variations in colours, patterns and forms.
The activity encouraged them to appreciate biodiversity and observe nature more carefully.
Understanding the Human Brain
The brain-related activities attracted considerable interest.
Students learned about different regions of the brain, while the brain-cap activity helped them visualise its major parts in an engaging manner. It provided a practical connection to concepts studied in biology.
Science and Technology Around Us
Students also explored the connection between science and everyday technology.
Interactive demonstrations helped them understand concepts related to communication and systems such as CCTV, showing how scientific principles are applied in real-life technologies.
Quizzes, Activities and Encouragement
Quizzes and interactive challenges encouraged students to participate actively and test their knowledge.
Gifts and recognition for participation added further enthusiasm and made the learning experience enjoyable.
Encouraging Scientific Interest at Jeevith PU College
The visit complements the objectives of the Jeevith Science Club, which encourages students to explore scientific subjects beyond the prescribed curriculum.
Exposure to research institutions, specimens, microscopy and scientific activities can help students develop observation skills and consider future opportunities in science, medicine, biotechnology and research.
A Meaningful Change in Perspective
The enthusiasm of the students was evident throughout the visit.
They asked questions, participated in activities, observed exhibits closely and discussed their experiences with their peers and teachers.
The visit helped them recognise that scientific learning can take place through direct observation and experience as well as through classroom study.
A Memorable Experience for Our Students
The NCBS Open Day brought together research, biology, technology and practical learning in one enriching experience.
From microscopy and butterfly studies to brain activities and scientific demonstrations, students encountered several aspects of science in an engaging environment.
For the students of Jeevith PU College, 16 September 2026 will remain a significant academic experience that broadened their understanding of life sciences.
We sincerely appreciate the NCBS Outreach Team for organising such a meaningful programme and thank the Jeevith PU College Management for supporting opportunities that enrich students’ academic exposure.
Where Curiosity Finds a New Direction
The experience encouraged students to look at science with greater interest and an open mind, while giving them a glimpse of the possibilities that lie beyond their regular curriculum.
